Our Mission
We believe sensory aids should be two things: genuinely effective and genuinely usable in real life. "Effective" means using the right materials in the right way — food-grade silicone that provides the right proprioceptive input for the person who needs it. "Usable in real life" means thinking about how a child actually uses a chew necklace at school, or how an adult uses one in a meeting.
This is why design matters to us. A chew necklace that looks like a medical device will be left in a school bag. A chew necklace that looks like a piece of jewellery — thoughtfully shaped, in appealing colours — will be worn. And a chew necklace that is worn is a chew necklace that works.

Safety Standards — What We Test and Why
Every Chewel product is independently tested and CE-certified before it goes on sale. CE marking means the product meets European health and safety directives — but we go further than the minimum requirement.
Our chew necklaces are tested for:
- BPA (bisphenol A) — confirmed absent
- PVC (polyvinyl chloride) — not used in our materials
- Lead — confirmed absent (zero tolerance for children's products)
- Phthalates — confirmed absent
- Nitrosamines — tested to EU toy safety standard EN71
- Latex — not present (important for children with latex allergy)
We require our manufacturer to provide certificates of conformity and test reports from accredited third-party laboratories. These are retained and available to retail partners and authorities.
The breakaway cords used on all Chewel necklaces are tested to meet strength requirements that balance cord safety (releasing under sustained pull pressure) with normal-use security (not releasing accidentally).
Materials
Chewel chew necklaces are made from food-grade silicone — the same material used in baby teats, medical devices, and kitchen utensils. Silicone is:
- Non-porous — it does not absorb bacteria like soft rubber
- Thermally stable — safe from freezing temperatures to over 200°C
- Chemically inert — does not leach components into saliva
- Flexible and tear-resistant — it tears rather than snapping into hard pieces
- Easy to clean — top-rack dishwasher safe
We do not use PVC, latex, or other materials with established safety concerns in any of our oral-use products.
